Dr. Paul Meli is one of South Florida’s most respected orthopedic surgeons. He began his Fort Lauderdale practice in 1990 and has since become nationally known for orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. He has personally treated over 200,000 patients in his office and performed over 15,000 surgical procedures in his career. Dr. Meli is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon. He is also an Expert Medical Advisor for the Worker’s Compensation System in the state of Florida and a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

Dr. Meli performs minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures of the knee and the shoulder. His specialties include knee arthroscopy, ACL reconstruction, shoulder rotator cuff repair, shoulder labral repairs for instability and treatment of shoulder adhesive capsulitis, and impingement syndrome. He also routinely performs total knee replacements and for appropriate candidates, this can be performed as an outpatient procedure. Dr. Meli also has extensive experience in non-operative treatments including P.R.P. (platelet-rich plasma), and viscosupplementation.
A native of Long Island, New York, Dr. Meli moved to Fort Lauderdale with his family at the age of 17. He graduated from Florida State University, received a graduate degree from the University of Florida, and received his medical degree from the University of Miami in 1984. Dr. Meli interned at New York University’s Cabrini/St. Vincent Hospital and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Catholic Medical Center in Queens, New York, and Northwest Metropolitan Detroit Hospital.
Dr. Meli is currently on staff at Holy Cross Hospital, Broward Health North, Broward Health Imperial Point, Cypress Creek Outpatient Surgery Center, and Holy Cross’ Physician’s Outpatient Surgery Center. At Holy Cross hospital, Dr. Meli has served as vice-chairman of the Department of Surgery, Chairman of the surgical peer review committee, and President-elect of the medical staff from 2001 through 2003.
Dr. Meli is active in civic and charitable organizations, including the American Heart Association, Red Cross, Kids in Distress, HANDY (Helping Abused Neglected Dependent Youth), the Museum of Discovery and Science, NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale, Florida Philharmonic, and the Humane Society of Broward County.
